Антибиотики помогают бороться с деменцией
Медицинский колледж Университета Кентукки сделал сенсационное открытие. Ученые заявляют, что антибиотики способны препятствовать развитию старческого слабоумия. Но такой особенностью обладают не все антибиотики, а только препараты определенной группы.
Лобно-височная деменция приводит к тому, что пациенты теряют способность контролировать себя и больше не могут общаться с окружающими людьми. Первые симптомы этого вида деменции можно заметить уже в возрасте 40 лет. Но некоторые больные и их родственники игнорируют заболевание, пока оно не перейдет в более серьезную фазу. Чтобы этого не допустить, нужно регулярно проходить обследования в медцентре. Даже посещение врача раз в полгода позволит обнаружить и предотвратить развитие и других заболеваний с не менее серьезными последствиями.
Ученые колледжа обнаружили, что лобно-височная мутация возникает из-за особой генетической мутации, которая лишает мозг способности вырабатывать белок програнулин. Синтез этого белка возобновляется при приеме аминогликозидных антибиотиков. Ученые надеются, что их открытие в дальнейшем поможет создать эффективные препараты против старческого слабоумия и помочь большому количеству пожилых людей.
