Европейские пещерные саламандры могут жить до ста лет
В Леонском институте имени Клода Бернара сотрудники зафиксировали рекордную продолжительность жизни европейских пещерных саламандр. В частности, наблюдение за особями, проживающими в коммунах Сен-Жирон и Мули, расположенных в департаменте Арьеж, показали, что представители этого вида саламандр живут до ста лет, — сообщается в Discowery News со ссылкой на доклад ученых, опубликованный в журнале Royal Society Biology Letters.
Как известно, европейская пещерная саламандра относится к виду протеев, среди представителей которого есть такие виды, которые могут при благоприятных условиях доживать до 55 лет (японская гигантская саламандра).
Ученые пока гадают, в чём секрет именно этого вида, так как пока не обнаружено каких-либо видимых внутренних процессов, способствующих долголетию. Например, скорость обмена веществ и антиоксидантная активность у них на таком же уровне, что и у других протеев.
Наблюдения за пещерными саламандрами показали, что в течение жизни эти существа мало двигаются, подвергаются минимальной естественной угрозе, имеют несколько специфическую физиологию, которая, впрочем, не может считаться залогом долголетия.
К тому же они совершенно не спешат размножаться. Половой зрелости самки и самцы достигают примерно в 15,6 лет, после чего самки откладывают каждые 12,5 лет по 35 яиц.
